WAKULLA FUN FEST: FOOD & FUN FOR EVERYONE!
Local company planning premier, ongoing event starting Friday, July 3rd in Hudson Park
[CRAWFORDVILLE, FLORIDA] – Finally Wakulla County will have a premier, ongoing event, to call its own! Wakulla Fun Fest is coming, riding the growing wave of food truck style events surging in cities and communities across the nation. “We’re very excited to bring Fun Fest to Wakulla,” said Bill Bassett, the event and talent manager for Bassett Promotions (which facilitates Fun Fest). “We’ll have an amazing variety of food and festive activities throughout the remainder of this year. Whether you’re young, or just young at heart – you’ll have an absolute blast!” Bill’s wife Eliza, president of Bassett Promotions, agreed, “There’s something for everyone to enjoy. “Don’t miss a Friday because you never know what you are going to experience next!”
The festivities kick off on Friday, July 3rd in Hudson Park and admission is FREE. The event runs from 11 AM till dark; but don’t think Fun Fest ends there. This event continues every other Friday right into December. There will be an assortment of food trucks and vendors; a Kid’s Zone filled with engaging activities; live entertainment under the Fun Fest Pavilion; arts and crafts vendors; community businesses and representatives; info tables; giveaways and other fun as well. Ongoing media coverage will be provided by North Florida’s fastest growing radio station, Freedom 93 FM. Event hosts are “Seminole Bill” and “Terminus Eric” of The Marc Loyd Show. They will be joined byCelebrity Guest Hosts “The Pirate Hunter” and Junior from The Will Dance Show to kick things off. Other celebrities will drop in to visit during the year.
Fun Fest is the brainchild of the Bassett’s children, Eric (Sweeney) and Elizabeth (Hawkins), both of whom help run the family businesses. “We’ve been talking about it for years,” proclaimed Sweeney, promotions manager. Eric constructed the event’s website www.WakullaFunFest.com and launched the Facebook page (Wakulla Fun Fest) which lit up with likes. “We had several hundred hits in the first week and knew we were on the right track,” Sweeney said with a grin. By starting each Friday event around lunch time, the working crowd can drop by and choose from an array of foods in one central location. Others can enjoy the event throughout the day, watch live entertainment and help kick off the weekend Wakulla style.
Bill Bassett knows community involvement, support, and sponsorship will play a major role in the success and growth of Fun Fest. “It’s key to having an amazing, ongoing event. This (event) will affect Wakulla County in many positive ways; it’s not just for those attending – but also for local merchants and organizations that will benefit as well. We want this to be Wakulla’s premier, ongoing event – one that people outside the area take notice of and want to attend. It doesn’t matter whether they’re riding down from Tallahassee or visiting here from other parts of the state or country. Let’s give them another reason to come enjoy Wakulla’s hospitality and comradery.”
Bassett feels this type of event has long been a missing piece of the community’s economic pie. Events like this can have a major impact on area economies. “Why do you think Tallahassee puts on the Downtown GetDowns? It’s not just for show. That (event) generates huge revenues for Leon County businesses and organizations. People arrive a day before the FSU games just for the festivities and spend more time and money in Tallahassee because of it. Wakulla will benefit from something similar. With all we have down here, our youth and residents shouldn’t have to head north to have a good time. Let’s keep it here, promote it, and the folks up there will drive south to see what we’ve got going on!
The Bassett’s know the workload that goes into events like Fun Fest. “One of our first businesses was a food concessions company,” added Eliza. “We’d hit the road with the kids for events across Florida and also set up outside FSU football (home) games. We have tremendous respect for all the vendors – they put in long hours.” They also appreciate those who took time to meet with them about their ideas for Fun Fest. Sweeney added, “Our concept fell on receptive ears and gained approval because of some great folks working for Wakulla County. They saw our vision and what this event can do and become.”
Initial feedback on Wakulla Fun Fest has been enthusiastic and supportive. Elizabeth Hawkins (the Bassett’s daughter), best summed it up: “Folks in Wakulla really wanted something else to do in this area. They deserve a great event like Fun Fest. It’s long overdue, so come and join us!”
